Beautiful crossing from Stornoway to Ullapool. We had a short ride to Stornoway castle and the skies opened for a good drenching then again when we returned the bikes.

Tarbert (Harris) → Stornoway (Lewis)
This was a day for the books. Riding a bike through a literal hurricane... At one point, we went 3km UPHILL without pedalling, because the wind was at our backs. The hardest work we did was downhill but into a headwind. Crazy! We called it quits about 2/3 of the way through when it got really crazy, and sheltered in a bus stop until the only bike friendly transit service on the island could come rescue us.
CommentWe had about 30km to ride up to the top of Uist, then took the Ferry across to Harris, then about 40km on to our B&B for the night. A lovely crossing, but a bit wet after that. We were very glad to get in out of the rain at the end of the day!

CommentFinally caught the ferry and made it out to the islands! Rode out to some pre-historic round houses, and the western coast, beyond which is nothing but water 'til you hit the Americas. Lovely weather and a lovely welcome to the Hebrides

CommentWe were supposed to take the ferry to Castle Bay, but due to weather it was cancelled. We took the train to Mallaig, instead, so that we could take the next day's ferry from there to Lochsboisdale, where we can hopefully resume our trip as planned. Unexpected bonus: We went over the Harry Potter bridge! Really beautful countryside.

CommentPicked up bikes for our big journey! Took a 50km test ride, and saw some beautiful Scottish scenery!
Some weather drama has derailed our plans for the next couple of days, but we've got it sorted and should be back on plan after Sunday. And we'll see some unscheduled Scottish scenery in the meantime!
